Meeting Report of CD English Club on Aug 31

Matt is our host today. He is Yao in CD club, with unreachable altitude up to now. Haha, he is such a funny guy and brings loads of laughter to the club. Wait, you will see in a second.

We don’t have newcomer today. But Woody, a very old member returns back. It is no doubt a pleasant surprise! 
Matt began the impromptu speech with funny and reasonable games.

Game one:  Are you emotional or rational?

Hi, please follow me. Extend your hands, cross your fingers naturally. See right thumb up? Or left thumb up?
Joyce and Louis, the two volunteers stand up and show their gesture, both right thumbs up. When your right thumb lies up, you are expected to be more rational. Left thumb up, emotional. Without any doubt, Joyce and Louis are rational. However they both deny and claim themselves to be more emotional.  There are good reasons to support their idea---love experience and talent show. They both think emotion is not a bad thing. You can follow your own heart, to be yourself, and enjoy life. Unreserve is the highest degree of refinement.

Game two:  Which kind of animal are you?
Please Follow me. Close your eyes and list three animals your like best according to priority.
Woody and Ellie brave the challenge and have a shot. Woody lists Rabbit, Horse and Swallow, while Ellie enumerates Monkey, Elephant and Horse. The first animal is what you think you are. The second what others think you are. The third what you really are. So Woody thought himself a rabbit, in others’ mind, he is a horse, actually he is a swallow. Err, does it make sense? Woody and Ellie made a “Yes” answer. We like some animal for its image or indication, to be cute, lovely, strong, to stand for freedom, loyalty, etc.

Morphes makes a well-organized prepared speech on Table Tennis, explaining the equipment, rules, terms, and famous stars in this field. He also talks about “Grand Slam” in Table Tennis, ie. One gets 3 gold medals in World Cup, World Championship and Olympic singles title. Who can imagine the so-called national ball of China was originated from UK several score years ago because of an accident in a restaurant? As a big fan in Ping pong game, Morphes is inviting challenge.

Table discussion proves to be a big time. Louis shares his Three Kingdom Monologue and 9-ox lady story with us. Please be all ears. We will begin the 9-ox lady story. Long long ago, two young men dropped by a village. They were informed that beauties abounds in this village and if you wanted to court and have a marriage with some girl, you need to offer 1to 9 oxen to the family. The more valuable you think she is, the more oxen you deliver. One guy walked around, got dazzled and found no beauty in his eyes. He left disappointedly. The other found his girl and presented 9 oxen to the family. His father-in-law felt reluctant to accept the 9 oxen because he didn’t think his daughter worth so much. However the guy insisted his girl worth 9 oxen without any doubt. Couple of years later, the first guy came back and glimpsed a pretty graceful girl among the crowd. He wondered how could there were such a stunner in this village. He followed the girl and found she had married and the husband was HIS FRIEND!  “Wow, I remember she was a common girl”, he frowned and talked to himself. His friend read his mind “This is my 9-ox lady. Your family is shaped by your praise. You see. ”This is the 9-ox lady story. However would you like to be the inspirator to others or let others be yours?

Woody will be our host in next Sunday gathering and Louis the prepared speaker. Louis may deliver a speech on how to become more attractive. Let’s wait and see.
